Interviewer instructions

In view of the importance of obtaining separate estima tes for different social and ethnic groups of the population, sample households are classified as scheduled tribe, scheduled caste, and ‘others’.Whether or not the household belongs to scheduled tribe, scheduled caste or other class will be indicated against this item in terms of the specified codes.Those who do not come under any one of the two social groups will be assigned code 9, meant to cover all other categories. In case different members belong to different social groups, the group to which the head of the household belongs will be considered as the 'social group' of the household.
