Homestead of a household is defined as the
dwelling house of the household together with the courtyard, compound, garden, out-house, place of worship,family graveyard, guest house, shop,
workshop and offices for running household enterprises, tanks, wells, latrines, drains and boundary walls annexed t o the dwelling house. All land coming under homestead was defined as
homestead land.
Homestead may constitute only a part of a plot. Sometimes, gardens, orchards or plantations, though adjacent to the homestead and lying within the
boundary walls, may be located on a clearly distinct piece of land. In such cases, land under garden, orchard or plantation was not considered as
homestead land.
