Definition

Cooperative Society: A cooperative society is a society that is formed through the cooperation of a number of persons (viz. the members of the society) for the benefit of the members. The funds of the society come from members’ contributions/ investments and the profits are shared by the members. For the purposes of this survey, if there was a co-operative
society run by more than one village of which the residents of the sample village could become members, then the sample village was considered to have a co-operative society.
