Information regarding the general education attained by the normal members of the household listed in col. (1) will be recorded in this col. in terms of the specified code numbers. For the purpose of making entries in this column, only the course successfully completed will be considered. For instance, for a person who has studied up to first year B.A., his educational attainment will be considered only secondary/higher secondary. Also, for a person who has studied up to 12th standard but has not sat for the final examination or has failed or even passed in the examination, his educational attainment will be considered secondary/higher secondary. The relevant codes to be used for recording entries in this column are:

A person who can both read and write a simple message in at least one language is to be considered as literate.
