For households who report possession of ration card, it is to be ascertained whether any of the two special types of ration card - BPL and Antodaya - have been issued to the household by the Government. The BPL (Below Poverty Line) ration card is issued to families adjudged to be living below the poverty line. The Antodaya ration card is meant for the ultra-poor and may be issued to a family if it is considered to be sufficiently below the poverty line. A household will be given code 1 if it possesses an Antodaya ration card and code 2 if it possesses a BPL ration card. If the household possesses a ration card other than the above two kinds, it will be given code 3. For households reporting no in item 20, a dash(-) will be entered in item 21.
