Questions and instructions

Literal question
What type of land is owned by the household?
Interviewer instructions
Homestead of household is defined as the dwelling house of the household together with any courtyard, compound, garden, out-house, place of working, family courtyard, guest-house, shop, workshop/offices for running household enterprises, tanks, wells, latrines, drains and boundary walls which are annexed to the dwelling house. All land coming under homestead is defined as homestead land.

Codes will be recorded against the item depending on the type of land owned. If the household owns only homestead and no other land, the appropriate code will be 1. But if the houseĀhold owns some other piece of land along with homestead land, code 2 will be entered against this item. Code 3 will be appliĀcable when a household owns a piece of land but not the homestead land. It is also to be noted here that gardens, orchards or plantation annexed to the dwelling house should also be covered under homestead land.
